22 sts/4 in. (5.5/in) in St st using larger needles.

BACK
With smaller needles cast on 49 (55, 61) sts. Beg and ending 1st row k1 (RS), work 8 (10,12) rows k1, p1 rib. Change to larger needles and work 6 (18,30) rows St st.
Shape Sleeves Cont in St st and inc 1 st at each end of next 20 (22, 24) rows. [89 (99, 109) sts.] Cast on 3 sts at beg of next 6 rows. [107 (117,127) sts.] Work 18 (22, 26) rows straight. Bind off loosely.

LEFT FRONT
With smaller needles cast on 24 (26, 30) sts. Work 8 (10,12) rows k1, p1 rib.
Change to larger needles and work 6 (18, 30) rows St st**.
Shape Sleeve Cont in St st and inc 1 st at beg of next row and at same (sleeve) edge on foll 19(21, 23) rows. [44 (48, 54) sts.] Cast on 3 sts at beg of next and foll 2 alt rows. [53 (57, 63) sts.] P 1 row.
Shape Front Dec 1 st at end of next row and at same (front) edge on foll 7 (8, 10) rows. [45 (48, 52) sts.] Work 10 (13, 15) rows straight. Bind off loosely.

Right Front
Work as given for left front to **.
Shape Sleeve Cont in St st and inc 1 st at end of next row and at same (sleeve) edge on foll 19 (21, 23) rows. [44 (48, 54) sts.] K 1 row. Cast on 3 sts at beg of next and foll 2 alt rows. [53 (57, 63) sts.]
Shape Front Dec 1 st at beg of next row and at same (front) edge on foll 7 (8, 10) rows. [45 (48, 52) sts.] Work 10 (13, 15) rows straight. Bind off loosely.

Front Band
Taking 1 st into seams and matching sts, join upper sleeve and shoulder seams, leaving 17 (21,23) sts for back neck. With smaller needles cast on 7 sts.
1st row (RS): K2, (p1, k1) twice, k1.
2nd row: K1, (p1, k1) 3 times.
These 2 rows form the rib. Rep them once. Next row (make buttonhole): K2, p1, yo, p2 tog, k2. Rib 9 (15, 21) more rows, then rep buttonhole row. Rep last 10 (16, 22) rows twice, thus 4 buttonholes will have been worked. Cont in rib until band, when slightly stretched, fits up both fronts and across back neck. Bind off in ribbing.

Cuffs
With right side facing, using smaller needles, pick up and K 24 (30, 36) sts across edge of sleeve. Work 8 (10, 14) rows k1, p1 ribbing. Bind off loosely ribbing.

Finishing
Taking 1 st into seams, join side and sleeve seams. Sew on front band as shown. Sew on buttons.
