Inspiration: The stitch definition
and hand with this yarn is wonderful. The cables at the top look equally nice
from the inside, so you could reverse the stitch motif.

7 rnds: K2, P2 around. Rep for 6 rnds. P 1 rnd.
Hat Choices: At this point, the hat is ~ 3

sequences of the staggered rib, remembering the P rnd separator.
If the hat shape suits you, P1 rnd.
K rnds for 1 inch [6-7 rnds]. Begin hat shaping.
Crown Decrease pattern:
Mini Cable pattern:
Rnd 1: *[(P1, K2T, P1), K8] , and repeat from * around.
Rnd 2: *[(P1, K2, P1) k8] and repeat from * around.
Abbreviation: K2T: K2 together, but do not move the st to right needle; instead
k1 into first st and move the two st over. This is twist st.
K2 rnds of the mini-cable pattern.
Decreases 1: *[(p1,
k2T, p1) k2tog, k6)], rep from * around.
You will work 3 rnds with no decs, thusly
Rnd a): Work 1 rnd *[(p1, k2, p1), k7], and K from * around.
Rnd b): Work 1 rnd *[(p1, k2t, p1, k7], and K from * around.
Rnd c): Rep Rnd a)
[That is: Work decs in rnd 1, then work 3 rows without any decs,
remembering to retain the K2T mini-cable every other rnd.]
Decreases 2: *[(p1,
k2T, p1), k2tog, k5), K from * around.
Work 3 rnds no decs, thusly:
Rnd a): Work 1 rnd *[(p1, k2, p1), k6], and K from * around.
Rnd b): Work 1 rnd *[(p1, k2t, p1, k6], and K from * around.
Rnd c): Work as for Rnd a) above.
Decreases 3: *[(p1,
k2t, p1), k2tog, k4], K from * around.
Work 2 rnds with no decs, alternating first the “k2-st” and 2nd the “k2T-st” to
keep mini-cable going.
Decreases 4: *[(p1,
k2t, p1), k2tog, k3], K from * around.
Work 2 rnds with no decs, alternating first the “k2-st” and 2nd the “k2T-st” to
keep -cable going.
Decreases 5: *[(p1, k2t, p1), k2tog, k2],
K from * around.
Work 2 rnds with no decs, alternating first the “k2-st” and 2nd the “k2T-st”to
keep -cable going.
Decreases 6: *[(p1, k2t, p1), k2tog, k1],
K from * around.
Work 1 rnds with no decs, with k2 instead of k2T.
Decreases 7: *[(p1, k2t, p1), k2tog], K
from * around.
Work 1 rnd with no decs, with k2 instead of k2T.
Final decrease rnds: At this point switch
to the dpns.
Rnd a) p1 *(k2t, p2tog), K from *around.
Rnd b) *(p1, k2tog), around.
Rnd c) k2tog around; repeat this rnd until only about 8 sts remain.
Finishing:
Cut yarn, leave an ~6 in. end. Using a crochet hook, pull yarn through st
farthest from “working” st, and drop from needle; repeat. Pull snugly, use
crochet hook to bring end to inside. Fasten cut end firmly going diagonally up
and down through several sts and cut. Work in end from CO.
