Materials:
Yarn: 2 - 50 gr. balls Puffin in coordinating colors A and B (here #2005-pink print & #0101-rosewater)
Needles: Crystal Palace Bamboo #6 US (4.25mm) 16 inch circular and set of size 6 DPN for crown of hat.
Misc: crochet hook or tapestry needle

Gauge: 4.5 sts per in (18 st/10 cm)

Size: Model shown is sized for Medium-Sized Infant (~17 in head) Nadia modeling is 9 mos. old.

Abbreviations: K = knit; p = purl; tog = together; St(s) = st itch or stitches; in = inches; cm = centimeter; mm = millimeter; Sl = slip; dec = decrease; Rnd(s) = round(s); Psso = pass slip stitch over knit stitch; N#1, 2, 3 - needles 1, 2, 3; Right twist (RT): k2tog, but leave on left needle; now knit into first st again and remove both (note this is not a decrease)

DIRECTIONS:

Ruffle: with Color A, cast on 252 sts. Join, being careful not to twist; place maker.
Purl 1 row.
Work in "double moss" st for 6 rnds:
  Rnd 1 = K2P2 around
  Rnd 2 = P2K2 around.
Alternate these two rounds.
Dec rnd 1: *(K2tog, K1); repeat around. (168 sts) . Knit 4 rnds.
Dec rnd 2: *(K2tog, K2); repeat around. (126 sts) Knit 2 ; P1 rnd, K1 rnd.
Dec rnd 3: *(K2tog, K1); repeat around (84 sts) K 2.
Dec rnd 4: *(P5, P2tog); repeat around (72 sts).

Hat body: cut color A and join color B. K 1 rnd.
Stitch pattern for hat body:
Rnds 1-5:*( K2P2), around.
Rnd 6: *(RT P2), around.
Work in pattern for ~ 4 in. P 1 rnd; cut B and change to color A.

Cabled Crown: change to DP when sts are strained on circ.
Dec rnd 1: *(RT, P2tog; RT P2), around. (63 sts)
Plain rnd 1: *(K2, P1; K2, P2), around
Dec rnd 2: *(K2, P1: K2, P2tog), around. (54 sts)
Plain rnd 2: *(K2, P1) around.
Dec rnd 3: *(RT, P1; K2tog, P1), around (45 sts)
Plain rnd 3: *(K2, P1; K1, P1), around
Dec rnd 4: *(K2tog, P1, K1, P1), around. (36 sts)
Plain rnd 4: *(K1, P1) around
Dec rnd 5: *(RT, K2tog), around (27 sts)
Plain rnd 5: K around.
Dec rnd 6: *(K2tog) around. (18 sts)
Plain rnd 6: *(RT) around.
Dec rnd 7: *(K2tog around) (9 sts)

Finishing: cut end, leaving ~ 8 in. With crochet hook or tapestry needle, pull end through each remaining st one at a time. Pull tautly and take end to inside. Work all ends in well.
