Knit or Crochet Cord
Knit I-cord or crochet cord in Fjord. Make a length of
at least 2 yards before felting.
First Felting
Felt bag lightly for 5-10 minutes to firm up
knitting and prepare surface for stitched embellishment. Put I-cord or crocheted cord in with bag to felt it. Shape bag with your
hands. I put an empty plastic milk jug in my bag to shape it. Let dry
somewhat overnight.
Stitching Embellishment:
Thread Fjord doubled through a large-eyed tapestry needle and st a free
form design on each side of slightly felted bag. I made a sort of
paisley design. Catch through one stitch and make long sts leaving most
of yarn lying on surface of bag.
Second Felting
Felt again to fuse stitching to felted bag by felting
again until the bag is firmness you like. Remember, the longer you felt
it, the smaller and thicker it will become. Put the I-Cord in again with
the felting to firm it more.
Finishing:
Pull felted
I-cord through eyelet holes to make handles. I chose to cut mine in
half and thread each through half and knot them together at each side. You
may wish to keep one long cord instead.
