Materials:
6 (7, 8) balls Crystal
Palace Bamboozle; Color #0415, "Roses"
1 button, 1-1/4” diameter
Crystal Palace Bamboo Needles: 26” circular needle: Sizes 7 (4.5mm) and 9
(5.5mm)
Note: Piece is worked back
and forth; circular needle is used to accommodate the large number of stitches.
Gauge:
18 sts and 24 rows = 4” (10 cm) using size 9 (5.5 mm), 29”
circular needle; in Stockinette stitch. Be sure to make a swatch before
beginning project.
Abbreviations:
BO-bind off; CO-cast on; dec-decrease; K-knit; PM-place marker;
P-purl; Rep-repeat; RS-right side; sl1-slip 1 stitch purlwise; St(s)-stitch
(es); WS- wrong side.
Instructions
Bottom Band:
Using size 9 needle; CO 250 (270, 290) sts. Work in Seed stitch as follows:
Row 1: *K1, p1; rep from * to end of row.
Row 2: *P1, k1; rep from * to end of row.
Repeat these 2 rows for a total of 12 rows.
Body:
Note: When joining new ball of yarn do not join at edge of 6 sts of seed
stitch front band; keep join on WS of garment. Overlap yarn for several sts to
make join.
Row 1: [K1, p1] 3 times, sl1, p2,
k8, p2, PM, k32 (36, 38) (this number will be reduced by 1 after each dec row),
PM, k38 (42, 48) (this number will be reduced by 2 after each dec row), PM, k72
(76, 80) (this number will be reduced by 2 after each dec row), PM, k38 (42, 48)
(this number will be reduced by 2 after each dec row), PM, k32 (36, 38) (this
number will be reduced by 1 after each dec row), PM, p2, K8, p2, sl1, [k1, p1]
three times.
Note: After placing markers on the initial row, they will be slipped as
you come to them.
Row 2: [P1, k1] 3 times, p1, k2, p8, k2; purl to last marker, k2, p8, k2,
p2, [k1, p1] 2 times, k1.
Row 3: (Dec and Cable Row) [K1, p1] 3 times, sl1, p2, slip 4 sts to cable
needle hold to back, K next 4 sts, then K 4 sts from cable needle, p2, slip
marker; K to 2 sts before next marker, k2tog, slip marker, ssk, K to 2 sts
before next marker k2tog, slip marker, ssk, K to 2 sts before next marker k2
tog, slip marker, ssk, K to 2 sts before next marker k2tog, slip marker, ssk, K
to marker, slip marker, p2, slip next 4 sts to cable needle hold to front, K
next 4 sts, then K 4 sts from cable needle, p2, sl1, [k1, p1] 3 times. (8 sts
have been decreased).
Row 4: Same as Row 2.
Repeat rows 1-4; 15 (17, 19) more times. [128 (144, 160) sts have been
decreased]. —122 (126, 130) sts remain.
End after working row 4. Markers may be removed.
Neckband:
Change to smaller needle; dec 10 (12, 14) sts while working Row
1.—112 (114, 116) sts.
Rows 1, 3, 5, 9, and 11: * K1, p1; rep from * to end of row.
Rows 2, 4, 6, 10, and 12: *P1, k1; rep to end of row.
Row 7: K1, p1, k1; BO next 2 sts in pattern (buttonhole); p1, * k1, p1;
rep from * to end of row.
Row 8: *P1, k1; rep from * to BO sts, CO 2 sts, continue pattern as
established.
BO all sts firmly in seed pattern as established.
Finishing:
Work in all ends. Damp block: Pin out and spray with water. Use
kitchen weight towels to weight bottom band so it will lay flat. Let air dry.
Sew on Button.
