Crystal Palace Yarns - free knit jacket pattern  -  Intermediate Knitting

Iceland Large Collar V-Neck Jacket Knit


 

(Iceland Extra soft Australian Wool )

Finished Measurements: chest 37 (40, 43)."

MATERIALS:
Crystal Palace Iceland, 100% Super Soft Wool 9 (10, 11) 100gr balls.
Crystal Palace Bamboo or DAISY Needles circular 29" or 36" sizes 9, 10-1/2 and 10-3/4 or size to obtain correct gauge.
NOTE: Circular needles are used working back and forth as with straight needles. Do not work in rounds.
3 buttons.

 
GAUGE: 13 sts and 16 rows = 4" (10 cm) in St st on largest needles (10-3/4) (7mm).
[Note that both CPY Bamboo & DAISY Needles are available in size 10-2/4.]
Be sure to check gauge with largest size needles before beginning.

PATTERN STITCHES:
1. K1, p1 ribbing.
2. Stockinette st (St st).

BACK: With middle size needles cast on 54 (58,62) sts and work in k1,p1 rib for 5." Change to largest needles and St st. increasing 8 sts evenly spaced across first row 62 (66, 70) sts. Work evenly until piece measures 8 (8-1/2, 9)" from beg.
Shape armholes: Bind off 3 sts at beg of next 2 rows then at each edge dec 1 st every other row 4 times 48(52, 56) sts. Work evenly until armholes measure 10-1/2 (11, 11-1/2)".
Shape shoulders: Bind off 7 (7, 8) sts beg of next 2 rows; then bind off 6 (7, 7) sts beg of next 2 rows. Bind off rem 22 (24, 26) sts for back of neck.

LEFT FRONT: With middle size needles, cast on 30 (32, 34) sts. Work in k1, p1 ribbing for 5." Change to largest needles and St st, increasing 4 sts evenly spaced across first row 34(36,38) sts.
Shape neckline and armholes.
For neckline:
at end of right side rows, dec 1 st every 4 rows 14(15,16) times. At same time, when piece measures 8(8-1/2,9)" from beg, shape armholes as for back. When front measures same as back bind off as for back shoulder.

RIGHT FRONT: Work as for left front, reversing all shapings. Work 3 buttonholes into ribbing when piece measures 1", 2.5 and 4" from beg. To work buttonholes, with right side facing, work 3 sts, then bind off next 2 sts and comp1ete row. On return row, cast on 2 sts over bound off sts.

SLEEVES: With middle size needles cast on 32 (34, 36) sts. Work in k1,p1 ribbing for 2-1/2." Change to largest needles and St st. Inc 4 (4, 6) sts evenly spaced across first row.
Shape sides:
At each edge, inc 1 st every 4 rows 12 (13, 13) times 60 (64, 68) sts. Work evenly until 15 (16, 17)" from beg.
Shape cap: Bind off 3 sts at beg of next 2 rows, then at each edge, dec 1 st every row 22 (24, 26) times. Bind off remaining 10 sts.

COLLAR: [Collar is knit separately and sewn onto jacket]
With largest needles beg along outer edge by loosely casting on 212 (220, 228) sts. Work 1 row in k1,p1 ribbing.
Shape neck edge: Cont in k1,p1 rib and at each edge, dec 1 st every row 2 (4, 6) times; then at each edge bind off 4 sts 9 times and 5 sts 10 times. At same time, when piece measures 3" from beginning change to mid-size needles, and at 6" from beg change to smallest needles. Bind off rem 36 (40, 44) sts.

FINISHING: Sew shoulder seams. Sew sleeve caps to armhole edges, matching bound off edges at underarms and centers of sleeve caps to shoulder seams. Sew side and sleeve seams. Sew neck edge of collar to neck edges of back and front of jacket, making ends of collar meet tops of ribbing at lower front [see top photo for placement]. Sew buttons opposite buttonholes. Steam seams gently without pressure.
