Finished Chest Measurements: 38(41,44)"
MATERIALS: Crystal Palace Cotton Flamme 100% cotton, 50gm (98
yds), 2 balls color A, 5 (5,6) balls color B,
2 balls color C.
Crystal Palace Bamboo Needles sizes 4 and 6 (or size to obtain gauge),
stitch holders, yarn bobbins.
GAUGE: 9 sts 2" in Stockinette stitch (St st) on larger needles. Take
time to check gauge.
FRONT: With smaller needles and color B cast on 88 (92,100) sts. Work in
Garter st (knit every row) for 6 rows. Change to larger needles and begin St st.
Follow the color chart. Blocks are 20(21,23) sts wide and 24(25,27) rows high
(there are 4 sts added to side blocks for border sts, so side blocks will be
28(29,31) sts wide). Use bobbins for each color and cross yarns when changing
color to prevent holes. Armhole shaping: When 3 rows of color blocks have
been finished, bind off 4 sts at each side (border sts) . Work even until 7"
above the armhole shaping. Begin neck shaping: Knit to center 20 sts.
Bind off the center 20 sts, join another ball of yarn and finish row. Work each
side separately. At each neck edge, every other row, bind off 5 sts once, then 3
sts once, then 1 st once. 21(23,27) sts rem at each shoulder. Work even on these
rem sts until last block is completed. Bind off all sts.
BACK: Work all in color B as for front omitting neck shaping. Bind off
straight across back when same length as front
NECKBAND: Sew left shoulder seam. With smaller needles, color B and
right side of work facing you, pickup and knit 43 sts down around neck edge and
work 4 rows in Garter st. Bind off loosely.
