FJORD Felted Eyeglass Case
(or use it as an iPod cozy)
designed, knit and felted by Sandi Rosner
for Crystal Palace Yarns
Make one of these great cases for every pair of glasses you own. The thick
cushy felt offers great protection for your eyewear. You’ll be surprised at the
way the colors blend and soften when you felt the printed colors of Fjord!
Materials:
1-50 gr ball
Crystal Palace Yarns Fjord
shown in color #9809 Fall Herbs
(click link just above to see all the 13 printed colors of Fjord)
1 pair
Crystal Palace Bamboo Needles
or
DAISY Needles size 10
Size I crochet hook
One great looking button
Knit it:
Cast on 10 sts.
Working in garter stitch (knit every row), increase 1 stitch at the beginning of
every row 20 times – 30 sts on the needle.
Continue in garter stitch without further shaping for another 60 rows. Bind off.
Bring bound off edge to about ˝” below beginning of shaping. Sew side seams.
With crochet hook, attach yarn to point of flap and make a crochet chain for the
button loop. Weave in ends.
Felt it:
Put the case in your washing machine. Use the lowest water level, the hottest
temperature, a little detergent, and the roughest agitation. The sample took
about 10 minutes, but your machine may produce felt faster or slower. Check your
case after 5 minutes, and every 2 minutes after that. When individual stitches
are no longer apparent and the case has shrunk to the right size, drain the
soapy water, rinse your case, and let it go through the spin cycle briefly to
get the water out.
Shape it:
Tug and smooth your eyeglass case into shape. Don’t be afraid to put some muscle
into it. The felt is strong – you really can’t hurt it. Let the case air dry.
Finish it:
Sew button into place.
