Easy Felting with one ball each of Iceland (100 gr) and
Fizz (50 gr)
Materials:
1-50 gr. ball of Fizz
Eyelash (here #7226- picnic print)
and 1-100 gr. ball of Iceland Soft
Wool (here #6320 - leaf)Size 17 - 9"
CPY Bamboo needles
The entire scarf is knit in garter st (all rows knit).
Knitting Instructions:
With size 17 needles and the two yarns held together, cast on 15 sts. 14
rows.
*Dec 2 sts at each end of the next row. (K2 tog twice)
Knit 8 rows.
Inc 2 sts at the end of the next row.
Knit 8 rows.*
Repeat between the two * until you have enough yarn left to end with
approx. K 14 rows. Bind off loosely.
Now you are ready to felt.
The first photos at the right show the finished scarf
before felting. I thought it would be fun to have the edge wavy.
The photos below show the scarf after felting in my Maytag
for one 5 minute wash cycle with hot water setting. I used a little
detergent, added a couple of hand towels to increase the rubbing on the
yarn.
It's good to check the progress every 2-3 minutes in case
your machine felts faster than mine. It may take longer, but you don't
want a board-hard felt.
I haven't decided how to finish the scarf. Since it lies
flat around my neck, I'm thinking of putting in a buttonhole slit and a
button just above the first inc back out to full width.
I also have enough Fizz left to perhaps do a buttonhole
stitch trim with yarn doubled around the edges of the scarf or perhaps
crochet around the edge.
I'll put up a photo later when I decide.
