The "bumble bee" bag on the left and the "spring picnic" bag
on the right show how very different these bags can look
depending on your color choices.
Note: the club bag on the right matches the
Rave Vest pattern you will find HERE
.

Above and Below are close up photos to show the
cool texture and sheen of these little bags.
They feel very soft and plush, too!

Crystal Palace Bamboo Needles or Daisy Needles:
sizes US 6 (4.5mm) and US 9 (5.5mm) OR size to obtain gauge.
Crystal Palace Bamboo Crochet Hook, size F.

Gauge:
19 sts = 4 inches, and 33 rows = 4 inches, using size 9 needle in slip stitch pattern. This produces a firm knitted fabric.
Gauge is not terribly important although you want the stitches to be firm.
Be sure to make a gauge swatch before beginning project.

Abbreviations:
Beg-beginning; BO-bind off; CO-cast on; estab-established; sl1-slip as if to purl; Rem- remaining; Rep-repeat; RS-right side; St(s)-stitch (es); WS- wrong side; wyib-with yarn in back; wyif-with yarn in front.

Note: Bag is worked as a rectangle, beginning with top trim and ending with top trim for other side.

Instructions:

Top Trim
Using Party color A and size 6 needles, CO 29. Knit 4 rows.

Body:
Change to size 9 needles, begin
Slip Stitch Pattern as follows:
(Slip St Pattern is multiple of 4+1 sts)
Row 1 (RS): (Color A) K4, *sl1 wyib, k3; rep from *to last 5 sts, sl1 wyib, k4.
Row 2: (Color A) K4, *sl1 wyif, k3; rep from * to last 5 sts, sl1 wyif, k4.
Row 3: (Color B) K2, *sl1 wyib, k3; rep from * to last 3 sts, sl1 wyib, k2.
Row 4: (Color B) K2, *sl1 wyif, k3; rep from * to last 3 sts, sl1 wyif, k2.
Repeat Rows 1-4 until piece measures 9 ¼ " from CO edge ending with Row 4.

Top Trim:
Change to size 6 needles, knit 4 rows and BO. Follow finishing instructions

Finishing:

RS together, fold bag in half so that the top trims are together. Using tapestry needle and Color A, sew each side. Work in all ends. Attach button, button loop and straps.

Button and Button Loop:
Sew button to the center of the top trim, using needle and thread. Using crochet hook and color A, join yarn with slip stitch, at center of top trim on the opposite side of the bag, chain enough stitches to go around the button, make it a little snug, as it will loosen with use; fasten to the beginning of the chain to make a loop.

Bag Strap:
Note: The length of the strap is designed to go over the shoulder and head so that it lies across the chest and hangs at the hip.
Cut a 14-yard piece of color A, make twisted cord as follows:
Fold in half and then in half again, so that you have 4 strands. Make twisted cord as follows:
Twisted Cord:  Knot the cut ends and loop over a hook or doorknob. Insert a knitting needle through the other end.
Twirl needle around until the strands of yarn are twisted tightly. Fold the twisted strand in half, keeping the cord taut.
Holding the top of the cord release your hand from the bottom and let the cord twist, even out the turns by running your hand along the cord. Knot the ends of the cord, so that it doesn’t untwist.

Finished cord will be approximately 42". For a fuzzy strap try using Rave Color B.

Place one end of cord inside bag at side seam, using needle and thread, stitch firmly, rep for other end.
