Free Knit Unisex Scarf Pattern
Sequoia Scarf in Elongated Brick Pattern
for a man or woman
This is an easy
scarf to knit and is reversible.
3.25" wide x 6 ft long
Materials
2 50 gr balls Sequoia (wool-alpaca blend)
1 pr size 10.75 (7mm) or 11 (7.5mm) Crystal Palace
Bamboo or DAISY Needles
[Note: both CPY Bamboo & DAISY are available in 10.75 -
7mm size)
Gauge: 3 sts/in (12 sts/10 cm-4 in)
(The outer edge 2 sts on each side are knit
in garter stitch, K all rows, to prevent edge curling.)
Instructions:
Before beginning knitting, wind off enough
yarn to make fringe if desired. I wound 12 turns around a hardbound book and
cut at one end of book to make 12 fringes to loop to ends of scarf, folded
double.
Cast on 13 sts
Row 1: K2, P3, K3, P3, K2
Row 2: K2, K3, P3, K3, K2
Repeat for 5 more rows.
Now reverse the "elongated bricks" for 7 rows (Rows
8-14).
Row 8: K2, P3, K3, P3, K2
Row 9: K2, K3, P3, K3, K2
Continue to work sets of 7 rows reversing the center 9
sts and keeping the outer 2 sts on each side in garter stitch.
When just a couple yards are left - Bind off.
If you wish to make the scarf wider, do so
in units of 3 sts.
Note: Sequoia gets even softer if
it is given a light washing after knitting. I washed in warm water with liquid
dish detergent and rinsed and spun in my salad spinner to remove excess water
(or roll in a big towel). I stretched the scarf out on the couch and it dried
overnight.
