Mochi Plus 2-Way Vest

Materials:
6 (7, 9, 10) 50 gr balls
Crystal Palace Mochi Plus for cropped vest (shown in col 557 "autumn rainbow")
8 (9, 11, 13) balls for hip-length vest
Crystal Palace Bamboo Size 10 – 35” circular knitting needle and
1 set size 10 - 12" single point needles
1 set DPN size 10 needles
2 Stitch markers
Clasp for front: (shown is JHB #1308)

Sizes: Finished bust measurements are 36 (40, 44, 48")
Length of bottom section is 10" from underarm for shorter vest, 14" for longer hip length.
Adjust length by 4 sts for each inch of desired change.

Gauge: 16 sts/4” in St st

Abbreviations:
BO-bind off; beg - begin (ning), CO-cast on; Dec-decrease; inc- increase; K-knit; patt-pattern; PM - place maker; PU- pick up; P-purl; rep-repeat; RS-right side; sl 1- slip one; St(s)-stitch (es); WS- wrong side; WT- wrap & turn; wyif- with yarn in front

Technique Note: (WT prevents a hole when doing a short row turn)
WT on a K row: K to designated stitch, slip next st to right needle, bring yarn to front, slip st back to left needle, turn and bring yarn to front, in position to purl.
WT on a P row: Purl to designated stitch, slip next st to rifht needle, bring yarn to back, slip st back to left needle, turn and bring yarn to back, in position to knit.

Body:
Cast on 40 (42, 44, 46) sts for left front edge. Note: For a hip-length vest, cast on an additional 16 sts (= 4") for the body.
K 9 rows (5 garter ridges formed on right side. End by working a wrong-side row. Beg pattern.
1: K10, place marker, K to last 3 sts, place marker, K 2, sl 1 wyif.
2: K3, P to last marker, K to last st , sl 1 wyif.
3: K to last st, sl 1 wyif.
4: K to last st, sl 1 wif.

Rep last 4 rows until there are a total of 139 (155, 171, 187) garter ridges on right side at bottom and top edges. End by working Row 4.
K 10 more rows, forming 5 garter ridges on right front edge.
End by working a WS row.
BO loosely.

With circular needle & RS facing, PU and K 1 st in each slipped st along top of vest (the side with 3 garter sts at the ends of the rows). [144 (160, 176, 192) sts]
K 9 rows, forming 5 garter ridges on RS.
End by working a WS row.

Divide for fronts and back:
K 28 (32, 36, 38), BO next 16 (16. 16, 20) sts for underarm,
K 56 (64, 72, 76, 80) for back, BO next 16 (16,16, 20) sts for underarm, K 28(32, 36, 38) to end.
Remember to count the st remaining on needle after binding off as one st of the back and left front.

Left front:
Using straight size 10 needle, continue as follows:
1 (WS): K5, PM, P to within 5 sts of underarm, PM, K4, sl 1 wyif.
Turn, leaving rem sts on circ needle, using it as a holder.
2: K to last st, sl 1 wyif.
3: K, slipping last st wyif
4: K to 2 sts before marker, K2 tog, K4, sl 1 wyif.
Rep last 4 rows until 24 (27, 30, 32) sts rem, then continue in pattern but dec at neck edge (as in row 4 with K2 tog) every 8th row until 18 (21, 24, 26) sts remain.
Work in pattern without shaping until armhole
measures 10 (10.5, 11, 11)” above bound off sts. End by working row 4.

Short row shoulder shaping:
P12 (14, 16, 18), WT.
K one row.
Next row: P to within 6 (7, 8, 9) sts of gap created by wrap, WT.
K one row.
Next row: Purl, picking up wrap and purling it together with the wrapped st.
Place on double point needle.

Right Front:
Sl sts of front to straight needle.
1 (wrong side): K5, place marker, P to last 5 sts, place marker, K4, sl 1 wyif.
2: K to last st, sl 1 wyif.
3: K, slipping last st wyif.
4: K 5, ssk, K to last st, sl 1 wyif.

Repeat last 4 rows until 24 (27, 30, 32) sts remain; then continue in pattern but dec at neck edge (as done in row 4 with ssk) every 8th row until 18 (21, 14, 16) sts remain.
Work in pattern without shaping until armhole measures 10 (10.5, 11, 11)” above bound off sts.
End by working row 3.
Short row shoulder shaping: K 12 (14, 16, 18), WT.
Purl one row.
Next row: K to within 6 (7, 8, 9) sts of gap created by wrap, WT.
Purl one row.
Next row: Knit, picking up wrap & knitting it together with the wrapped st.
Place on double point needle

Back: With WS facing, join yarn and work as follows:
1: K5, place maker, P to last 5 sts, place marker, K4, sl 1 wyif
2-4: K to last st, sl 1 wyif.

Rep these 4 rows until back measures same as fronts. End by working a WS row.
Short row shoulder shaping.
1: K to within 12 (14, 16, 18) sts of end, WT
2: P to within 12 (14, 16, 18) sts of end, WT
3: K to within 6 (7, 8, 9) sts of gap created by wrap, WT.
4: P to within 6 (7, 8, 9) sts of gap created by wrap, WT
5: K across, knitting wrap together with wrapped st.
6: P across, purling wrap together with wrapped st.

Do not bind off.

Three-needle bind off:
Place right sides together and work bind off sts of left shoulder by knitting into first st on circular needle and double point needle. Knit second sts on needles and bind off.
Bind off sts at center back, then three-needle bind off sts of right shoulder.
