Materials
1 - 50 gr ball Crystal Palace
Shambala
#8085 "Lhasa"
Crystal Palace 16" Circular Bamboo Needles: Sizes 9 & 10.5; Crystal
Palace Bamboo DP Needles: size 9 crochet hook or tapestry needle.
Designer's note: using a smaller size of dpn for the crown results in a nicely finished look without affecting the hat sizing.
Gauge: 3.5 sts/in worked over St
st
Size: ~21 inch head, adult woman or man
Abbreviations:
beg-beginning; BO- bind off; CO-cast on; cont-continue;
inc-increase; PM- place marker; rep-repeat; rs-right side; sl- slip; St st-
stockinette stitch; st(s)-stitch(es); ws-wrong side; yo- yarn over
Hat
Using size 9 needles, cast on 68 sts; join, being careful not to twist; PM. Work
in K2P2 rib for 1.5 in.
Switch to larger short circ and continue the K2P2 rib until the hat is ~ 6 in
from cast on edge.
Crown: switch to the #9 dpn as needed.
Dec rnd 1: *(K2,P2tog) around. Work 1 rnd as *(K2P1).
Dec rnd 2: *(K2tog, P1) around. Work 1 rnd as *(K1P1)
Dec rnd 3: *(K2tog, K1P1) around – end K2tog. Work 1 rnd as *(K2P1) around, end
K1.
Dec rnd 4: *K2tog, P1) around, end P2tog.
Dec rnd 5: *(K2tog) around. Cut yarn leaving ~ 8 in end
Finishing:
Using the crochet hook (or tapestry needle), pull the yarn through each rem st,
one-at-a-time, dropping the st off needle.
Pull tautly and take end to inside of hat.
Fasten off the ends by working them through several sts on the back.
