Cropped Lace Cardigan

Bamboozle's elastic content means it will not grow lengthwise.

Materials:
Crystal Palace Bamboozle (55% bamboo, 24% cotton, 21% Elastic Nylon)
9 (9, 10, 11) 50 gr balls shown #in 2302 'baby blues' (cardigan)
2 50 gr balls (hat)
 sizes 8 and 9 single points, or size to obtain gauge; stitch holders.
Crystal Palace Bamboo  or Daisy Needles
Size 5, 6 and 7 - 35" circular needles
Crystal Palace Bamboo  or Daisy Needles Size 5, 6 and 7 straight needles
Crystal Palace Bamboo  or Daisy Needles Size 5 and 7 - 16" circular needles for hat
Stitch markers
2 stitch holders

Finished Bust Sizes: 36 (40, 44, 48)

Note: The sweater can be made longer by working additional rows of stockinette stitch following the lace pattern and before dividing for armholes. Each additional skein of yarn will add approximately 2 (2, 2.5, 2.5) inches to length.

Gauge: 20 sts = 4" Lace Pattern using size 6 needle
20 sts = 4" in stockinette st and size 7 needle

Be sure to do a gauge swatch - due to the elasticity of Bamboozle you should knit swatch, let it rest overnight and measure gauge.

Lace Pattern (multiple of 8 + 1)
row 1 and all wrong-side rows: Purl
row 2 K1, *yo, ssk, K3, K2 tog, yo, K1*
row 4 K2, *yo, ssk, K1, K2tog, yo, K3*, end last rep K2 instead of K3.
row 6 P1, *K2, yo, sl 1, K2 tog, psso, yo, K2, P1.*
row 8 P1, *ssk, (K1, yo) twice, k1, K2 tog, P1.*
row 10 Repeat 8
row 12 Repeat 8
row 14 Repeat 8
row 16 Repeat 8

Seed Stitch:
Row 1: K1, *P1, K1* to end of row.
Row 2: purl the K sts, knit the P sts.
Repeat these two rows to form Seed St.

Note: The sweater is knitted in one piece to underarm.

Directions
Using Size 5 circular needle, cast on 191 (207, 231, 247) sts. Beginning with a K sts, work 3 rows seed st. End by working a wrong-side row.
Buttonhole Row: K1, P1, K2 tog, yo, seed to end of row.
Work 4 more rows seed st, end by working a right-side row.

Change to size 6 circular needle.
Next row (wrong side): Work 7 sts in seed st for right front border, place marker, work row 1 of lace pattern to last 7 sts, place marker, work 7 sts in seed st for left front border.

Continue working lace pattern, keeping first and last 7 sts in seed st for front border. Work buttonholes on border when working row 4 and row 10 of lace pattern as follows: K1, P1, K2 tog, yo, seed st to marker, sl marker, work next lace pattern row to next marker, sl marker, seed st to end.

Repeat rows 1-16 of lace pattern three times, then repeat rows 1-6 once more. Change to size 7 circular needle and work even in St st (remember to make buttonholes) and keeping front borders in seed st, until piece measures 12" from cast-on edge. End by working a wrong-side row.

Next row: K 44 (48, 53, 56), bind off next 6 (6, 8, 10) sts for underarm, K 87 (97, 105, 113) for back, bind off next 6 (6, 8, 10) sts for underarm, K to end.

Right Front:
Using straight needles, P across right front. Turn, leaving remaining sts on circular needle, using it as a holder.

Begin armhole and neck shaping:
(Remember to Keep front border in seed st)
Row 1: Work border, sl marker, K1, ssk, K to last 3 sts, K2 tog, K1.
Row 2: Purl, working border in seed st.
Repeat the last 2 rows 5 (6, 8, 9) times more, then continue decreasing at neck edge only
every fourth row until there are 30 (30, 30, 30) sts remaining. Work even until piece measures
8.5 (8.75, 9, 9.25) inches above dividing row. End by working a right-side row.

Shoulder shaping:
Beginning at armhole edge, bind off 8 sts at the beginning of next 2 wrong-side rows, then 7 sts on next wrong-side row. Place 7 sts of border on st holder.

Back: With wrong-side facing, re-attach yarn and purl across sts of back.
Next row: K1, ssk, K to last 3 sts, K2 tog, K1. Repeat the last two rows 5 (6, 8, 9) times more, then work even until piece measures same as front section to beginning of shoulder shaping.
Bind off 8 (8, 8, 8) sts at beginning of next 4 rows, then 7 (7, 7, 7) sts at beginning of next 2 rows. Bind off remaining sts.

Left Front: [typo corrected in numbers in this section - 6/20/07]
With wrong-side facing, re-attach yarn and purl across sts of left front. Next row: Work border, sl marker, K1, K2 tog, K to last 3 sts, ssk, K1.
Purl one row.
Repeat last 2 rows 5 (6, 8, 9) times more, then continue decreasing at neck edge only every 4th row until 30 (30, 30, 30) sts remain. Work even until piece measures same as back to beginning of shoulder shaping. Beginning at armhole edge, bind off 8 sts twice and 7 sts once. 7 sts remain for the back neck band.

Back Neck Border: Working seed st border until piece reaches to middle of back neck when slightly stretched. Bind off. Work border on right front to match. Bind off. Sew border in place, joining at center back.

Sleeves:
Using size 5 straight needles, cast on 57 (65, 73, 81). Work in seed st for ¾".
End by working a right-side row. Change to size 6 needle and work rows 1-16 of lace pattern once, then rows 1-6 once more. Change to size 7 needles.
Next row: Continuing in St st, bind off 3 (3, 4, 5) sts each end of next 2 rows.
Next row: K1, ssk, K to last 3 sts, K2 tog, K1. Purl one row.
Repeat last two rows until 39 (41, 49, 51) sts remain.
Work even until sleeve measures 4.5 (4.75, 5, 5.5) inches above bound-off row.

Continue in stockinette st, decreasing one st each end of every row until 17 (19, 21, 23) sts remain. Bind off.

Hat:
Using size 5 - 16" circular needle, Cast on 89 (97) sts.
Work in seed st for 3". End last round by knitting 2 tog (88, 96) sts.

Change to size 7 - 16" circular needle, place marker at beginning of round. Begin lace pattern:

Row 1 and all alternate (odd) rounds: Knit
Row 2 *yo, ssk, K3, K2 tog, yo, K1.*
Row 4 K1, *yo, ssk, K1, K2tog, yo, K3.* End last repeat K2 instead of K3.
Row 6 *K2, yo, sl 1, K2 tog, psso, yo, K2, P1.*
Row 8 *ssk, (K1, yo) twice, K1, K2 tog, P1.*
Rows 10, 12, 14, 16: repeat round 8.

Repeat rounds 1-16 once more, then rounds 1-6 once more. Remove marker, K4, replace marker.
Begin decreasing:
*K6, K2 tog* all around. K 1 round even.
*K5, K2 tog* all around. K 1 round even.
*K4, K2 tog* all around. K 1 round even.
*K3, K2 tog* all around. K 1 round even.
*K2, K2 tog* all around. K 1 round even.
*K1, K2 tog* all around. K 1 round even.
*K2 tog* all around.

Cut yarn, leaving 10" end. Thread onto tapestry needle and draw thru remaining sts. Pull up firmly and fasten off on wrong side, weaving end around center several times.
