Chemo Cap in Splash & Merino 5
Designer’s Note: This cap combines the warmth of wool
with the pizzazz of Splash and whimsical Curlicues at the top. It is sure to
bring a smile to the recipient! Make it in “Breast Cancer Pink” for a special
touch.
Both Merino 5 and Splash are machine washable, making this an easy-care,
thoughtful gift.
Materials:
1-50 gr ball Crystal Palace Splash,
color #9219 "Strawberry Soda",
1-50 gr ball Crystal Palace
Merino 5, color #5208, "Blush
Pink"
Crystal Palace Bamboo DP (double-pointed needles) US #11 needle
Crystal Palace Bamboo Crochet Hook, Size G
Directions:
This hat is knit with a strand of Splash and a strand of Merino 5 held together
throughout. Two sizes are given to assure a good fit for the recipient.
Cast on 40 (50) sts being careful not to twist first row. Place marker to
indicate beginning of round.
Knit in rounds for 5-1/2 (6) inches. Begin decreases.
Next round: K8, K2 tog – 36 (45) sts. Knit 1 round.
Next round: K7, K2 tog – 32 (40) sts. Knit 1 round.
Next round: K6, K2 tog – 28 (35) sts. Knit 1 round.
Next round: K5, K2 tog – 24 (30) sts. Knit 1 round.
Next round: K4, K2 tog – 20 (25) sts. Knit 1 round.
Next round: K3, K2 tog – 16 (20) sts.
Next round: K2, K2 tog – 12 (15) sts.
For small size only: Next round: K2 tog 6 times – 6 sts.
For larger size only: Next round: K2 tog 7 times, K1 – 8 sts.
Next round: K2 tog – 3 (4) sts.
Gather 3 (4) sts together and fasten off. Cut Splash, leaving a 3” end. Pull
Splash end to inside of hat.
Curlicue Trim: *Using Merino 5, chain 26. Turn, skip 1 chain, and work 3sc in the remaining 25 chain.* Repeat between ** at least 4 times to make 5 or more Curlicues.
