This is a Special design for my Niece who is expecting and
due in February. Since she likes bright colors what better for her and baby to
wear home from the hospital?
Materials
1 - 50 gr ball Crystal Palace
Little Flowers (here in #9762 'tapestry')
2 - 50 gr balls Crystal Palace Panda Cotton
(here in
#0431 'fruit salad')
Size 1 Crystal Palace Original or Star Bamboo Double Point
(your choice of 2 circs, ML or double points.)
Tapestry needle for weaving in ends & sewing toes
Baby Socks:
Using one strand of each yarn, CO 28 Sts. Join being careful not
to twist the stitches. Work 10 rounds of K2 P 2 ribbing using both yarns.
Cut the strand of Little Flowers leaving a long enough tail to weave in at the
end. Work another 10 rounds of rib using only the Panda Cotton.
Work 8 rounds knitting all of the stitches.
Heel Flap:
Working on half of the Stitches (14) you will work back and for
the in rows (K 1 row and Purl back across the stitches you just knit). Slip the
first stitch of every row for use later. Work a total of 20 rows ending with a
purl back row.
Heel Turn:
Row 1: Slip 1, K 7, K2tog, K1 Turn
Row 2: SL 1, P 3, P2tog, P 1, Turn
Row 3: SL 1, K4, K2tog, K1 Turn,
Row 4: SL 1, P 5, P2tog, P 1, Turn
Row 5: SL 1. K 6, K2tog, K1 Turn
Continue in this manner adding one St to the center count until you have used
all of the Sts from the heel flap.
Gusset:
PU and K slipped sts from side of heel flap, placing them onto needle holding
heel turn sts.
K across sts for instep. With empty needle PU and K the sts on other side of
heel flap & also K half of sts from the heel turn onto this needle.
Decrease round: K to within last two
sts on needle and then K2tog, K across instep, SSK (slip 2 sts as if to K then
K2tog), K to end of round. Alternate the dec round with a knit round until you
are down to 28 sts. Continue to K all sts until you are 1 in. from desired
length of sock.
Toe:
Round 1: K to within last 2 sts on needle, then K2tog, next needle SSK
(slip 2 sts as if to K & then K2tog), then K across instep sts to within last 2
sts on needle, then K2tog, next needle SSK (Slip 2 Sts as if to knit and then
K2tog), K to end of round. Alternate this round with a K round until a total of
12 sts left. Graft toe sts together. Now make second sock for that special
someone.
Adult Sock:
With both strands of yarn CO 72 Sts, Join being careful not to
twist sts when joining. Work 10 rounds of K2 P2 ribbing then cut strand of
Little Flowers. Continue for 10 rounds in K2, P2 ribbing with Panda Cotton. Work
10 rounds of K every st and start heel flap.
Heel Flap:
Eye-of-Partridge Heel Flap:
All slipped sts are slipped P wise.
Row 1: Slip the first stitch, K1, slip 1 across, ending with K1.
Row 2: Slip the first stitch, P across.
Row 3: Slip the first two stitches, K1, slip 1 across, ending with slip
1.
Row 4: P across.
Repeat these 4 rows until 2 inches or distance from ankle bone to the floor. End
after completing a P row.
Heel Turn:
Row 1: SL 1, K 19, K2 tog, K1 Turn.
Row 2: SL 1, P 5, P2 tog, P1 turn.
Row 3: SL 1. K 6, K2 tog, K1 turn.
Repeat rows 2 & 3 adding one more st to center st count each time until out of
sts to do the K2 tog/P 2 tog, ending with a P row.
Gusset:
K across heel turn sts then K up one st every slipped st on edge and an extra st
in corner where gusset and instep sts meet.( this prevents holes in that
corner).
K across instep sts.
K up a stitch in corner where instep meets gusset side then K up one st for
every slipped stitch on side of heel flap.
Knit across heel turn stitches.
Dec round*: K to within 2 sts of instep sts and K2 tog.
K across instep sts.
SL 1, K 1, SSK (Slip 2 Sts as if to knit and then K2tog), Knit to end of needle
K 1 round.* Rep until back to 72 sts, then knit until 1.5 inches from total
length needed.
Toe:
Round 1: K to within last two sts on needle and then K2tog, next needle
SSK (slip 2 sts as if to knit, then K2tog), then K across instep sts to within
last two sts on needle and then K2tog, next needle SSK (slip 2 sts as if to K
then K2tog), K to end of round. Alternate this round with K round until a total
of 20 sts left. Graft toe sts together & make second sock for that Special
someone.
