Yarns
These socks give a subtle design (based on a quilt
pattern) that works perfectly with the Panda Wool. You will notice the way
the colors accent the design and almost line up with the sides of the boxes.
Gauge: 9 sts/in (36 Sts/10 cm) and 11 rows/in (44
rows/10 cm)
Size: Woman’s Med-Lg
Materials: 2-50 gr balls of Crystal Palace Yarns
Panda Wool
(bamboo-wool-nylon) (color shown is #9798 'red cinnamon')
Note: Panda Wool now replaced by
Panda Superwash.
Crystal Palace Bamboo double point needles in size 1 (2.25 mm).
Tapestry needle for closing toes and weaving in ends.
Pattern Stitch Chart:
The blank squares are KNIT and the dot squares are purl.
The color makes it easier to follow the pattern.

Directions:
Cast on 72 Sts and join being careful not to twist when joining into round. Work
1 ½ in of K 2, P 2 ribbing.
K 1 round before starting the graph and decrease 2 Sts in this round as the
pattern is a 10 St repeat.
Work two repeats of the graph for a short sock (a longer cuff will require more
yarn).
K 5 rounds of plain St St so you don’t have the pattern at the top of the heel
where your shoes rub.
Heel Flap:
Eye-of-Partridge Heel Flap:
All slipped stitches are slipped purl wise.
Row 1: Slip the first stitch, K1, slip 1 across, ending with K1.
Row 2: Slip the first stitch, P across.
Row 3: Slip the first two stitches, K1, slip 1 across, ending with slip 1.
Row 4: P across.
Repeat these 4 rows until you have 2 inches or the distance from your ankle bone
to the floor. End after completing a Purl row.
Heel Turn:
Row 1: SL 1, K 19, K2 tog, K1 Turn.
Row 2: SL 1, P 5, P2 tog, P1 turn.
Row 3: SL 1. K 6, K2 tog, K1 turn.
Repeat rows 2 & 3 adding one more stitch to the center stitch count each time
until you run out of stitches to do the K2 tog/P 2 tog, ending with a P row.
Gusset:
K across the heel turn sts then Knit up one stitch in every Slipped stitch on
the edge and an extra stitch in the corner where the gusset and the instep
stitches meet.( this prevents holes in that corner).
K across the instep stitches.
Knit up a stitch in the corner where the instep meets the gusset side then Knit
up one stitch for every slipped stitch on the side of the heel flap.
