INSTRUCTIONS

CO 80 sts over 4 dpn's in appropriate size for desired circumference.  Join and knit 10 rnds.

Inc rnd:  (K8, m1) around.  [90 sts]

Begin Cable Pattern:

Rnd 1-3:  (K10, p2, k4, p2, k9, p2, k4, p2, k10) 2 times.

Rnd 4:  (K10, p2, C4L, p2, C6R, k3, p2, C4L, p2, k10) 2 times.

Rnds 5-7:  As Rnds 1-3.

Rnd 8:  (K10, p2,C4L, p2, k3, C6L, p2, C4L, p2, k10) 2 times.

Repeat these 8 rnds until piece measures ~5 (5½)" from beg of Cable Pattern, ending with a Rnd 7 (3) of pattern and ending 4 sts before end of rnd.  Slip last 4 sts and 1st 4 sts onto scrap yarn and hold aside.

Begin 3-Needle Bind-Off

Slip stitches so they are on 2 needles rather than 4 (1 needle in the front and 1 in the back).

Insert working needle into 1st st in front then into 1st st in back and k tog.

*Insert working needle into next st in front, then into next st in back and k tog.  Sl 1st st on working needle over 2nd st on working needle.  (1 st bound off), rep from * until there are 4 sts left on each of the front and back needles.  Sl last st on working needle over next st on front needle.  [8 sts rem in corner].

Begin I-Cord Knot:

Sl all 8 sts onto 1 dpn.

*Knit across 8 sts, do not turn; rep from * until cord measures 4".  Cut end, leaving 8" tail, and thread tapestry needle through rem sts.  Pull tight and secure end on inside of cord.

Sl the 8 sts on the scrap yarn onto a dpn and work 2nd I-cord as for 1st.  Weave in all ends.  Tie I-cords in knots to finish off the hat.
